GOV. EASLEY DISPATCHES ASSESSMENT TEAMS TO SURVEY TORNADO DAMAGE 11/17/2008
Gov. Mike Easley announced today that North Carolina damage assessment teams have begun surveying destruction in Johnston and Wilson counties from a tornado that damaged or destroyed more than 50 structures in those counties early Saturday morning. Two people were killed as the twister tore through communities while people were sleeping.

Gov. Mike Easley today announced recipients of the North Carolina Medallion for Outstanding Volunteer Service awarded by the N.C. Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service. These honorees provided valuable services to their communities, including medical assistance, home construction, and help for children and older adults. full story...

GOV. EASLEY REQUESTS FEDERAL AID FOR TORNADO RECOVERY 11/18/2008
Gov. Mike Easley will declare Johnston and Wilson counties state disaster areas, which will make residents and businesses in those counties eligible to apply for state disaster assistance to help with repairs from tornadoes that struck early Saturday morning. Easley has also requested a U.S. Small Business Administration disaster declaration, which would make residents and business owners affected by the tornado eligible to apply for low-interest federal loans. full story...
